Kicks n Licks Makin’ Us Wobble Once More

As the world travels further into the realm of house and techno beats, dubstep has once again fallen from the top and placed in the back tents at most festivals. It’s a result of the huge spike in popularity that occurred with the rise of Bassnectar, Skrillex, and Flux all perfecting and reinventing the genre constantly. The bubble seems to have burst recently, with more and more fans turning to alternative or crossover genres like moombahton and trap. While the true bassheads are staying strong and somewhat isolating themselves from the rest of the edm community.

Whenever I start thinking like this it is always refreshing to hear some new, but true dubstep coming from my speakers. Acts like Krewella and now Kicks n Licks are bringing back the true roots of dubstep on a much smaller and enjoyable stage. Kicks n Licks reminds me a lot of present day Flux Pavilion with not as many drops as bass cannon. The featured remix was released on Thursday and bumps well in the speakers..

Gansta Fun – California (Kicks n Licks Remix)

I would be doing this duo I great injustice if I was to only feature their most recent work. They represent the best of what dubstep has to offer and continue to put out great summertime anthems. Listen to Time immediately as it is by far my favorite track I’ve heard from them.

Bassnectar: Burlington Show and New Album Preview

Bassnectar has officially announced he will be returning to Burlington August 19th, and he will be dropping his brand new ‘VAVA VOOM’ album on April 10th! With the likes of the new collaboration with Lupe Fiasco above, this will not be a show to miss. The California based DJ and Producer has found a great blend of hip-hop and dubstep in this new track and with the release of his new album coming up in ten days, this new single is popping up all over the blogoshpere. Once again blurring the lines between the rap game and the EDM scene, this tune has all the great elements of a hip hop track with the flare and heavy hitting excitement we have come to expect from Bassnectar. Last year Bassnectar sold out Memorial Auditorium, and with the amount of interest there has been lately around these big shows at the Auditorium I would suggest getting tickets sooner than later, tickets can be purchased here. Also here is a great little preview of the ‘Vava Voom’ Album, really creative use of an old school radio in this Video, I am stoked to here all these songs live and in their true form in August, welcoming in 4.20 at midnight with Bassnectar should be EPIC to say the least BTV! Below is the Divergent Spectrum remixes straight from Bassnectar for FREE DL, these tracks are sure to get you pumped up for this show!

Roksonix – Music in Me/Madness EP

Roksonix just dropped a new single, featuring two new tracks, “Music in Me” & “Madness”. I have to say, I’m feeling the throw-back feel to the track “Music in Me”; I don’t know, the build & vocals makes me feel like I should be raving in some rank warehouse in Britain circa early/mid 90s. Roksonix have done a superb job of bringing that classic dnb sound to the track that I’m sure the Old School Heads will appreciate, and back it up with some serious womp that the kids are lovin’ these days. I expect to hear this played out waaaay too much in the coming months, but fuck it, this track bumps.

Skeptiks – Cobwebs

Already on Beatport‘s Top 10 Dubstep chart, this heavy hitting banger would shake the cobwebs out of even my old college party house. The intro and repeating beat truly sell me on the track, but I would love to hear someone remix it with a not-so-Skrillex-esque drop. I mean, nobody can be Skrillex so don’t try. This is put out by the record label Never Say Die who represent Document One and Foreign Beggars so it must be filthy!

Flux Pavillion and Doctor P Invade Higher Ground

Last night Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont was host to Circus Records and UKF‘s own Doctor P and Flux Pavilion. The night definitely started out on a good note when Sleezy D from the 2Kdeep Crew hooked me up with a ticket; due to some complications earlier in the day I was a little skeptical how or what it was gonna take to get in, but big thanks to the 2Kdeep guys for making that happen. I was a little bummed when I got inside and realized it was an all ages show so there was no drinking on the dance floor but the air conditioned back bar was basically a VIP lounge all night. First the 2Kdeep crew played a couple sets and DJ Haitian spun a great set to lead into Doctor P.  Let the circus begin! The crowd erupted on Doctor P’s first drop as he rolled through a sick blend of electro-house with some real heavy Brostep drops to keep the crowd on their feet the whole set. Although Doctor P wasn’t as intimidating or scary as I for some reason expected him to be, this little dude packs some mean bass and really set things up nicely for Flux.

After spending potentially a little too much time at the bar during Doctor P’s set, it was time to make moves to the front and see what Mr. Pavilion had in store for Burlington. Unfortunately the general consensus was that the volume needed be turned up a couple notches, but either way Flux really put on a show for Burlington bringing all the hard hitting bro-womp anyone could ask for.  Flux and Doctor P both definetely let the Bass Cannon kick it: we heard all the bangers they could possibly fit into their hour or so sets, with Flux ending it all with Gold Dust and leaving everyone pretty stunned.  Unfortunately I was not able to make it out to the 2Kdeep after party but reports from the street team is 2Kdeep’s new spot is really tight and they played until 6 in the morning. I even heard it has AC,  but the rest is for you to find out. Had a great time with everyone at the show last night hope to see you tonight down at RedSquare for Electro-hop and Nectars for Mushpost presents Select and special guest, featuring the likes of DJ A-dog and many others. Here are a couple of my favorites from Flux and the Doctor, Enjoy!

Borgore ft. Adi Ulmansky – Someone Else’s (Document One Remix)

Document One is a dubstep duo working under the record label Buygore operated by Borgore, an Israeli dubstep producer . The self-proclaimed “dubstep killer” is one of the filthiest (no, literally… did you see the picture??) dubstep producers in the game and just released a new EP entitled Delicious. Currently he’s hitting the US circuit fresh off his performance at the epic one-night Baltimore festival Starscape and he will be cruising through Denver tonight and Thursday night for a womptastic double-header at the Bluebird Theater. Thanks to the homies over at GotBassMusic.com, bhanna and I will be attending the show tonight (fo’ free!) and will be womping well into Wednesday morning!  Enjoy this gem straight off the new EP.
