Paper Diamond at Higher Ground 2/14/14

This has been an absolutely awesome start to 2014 for producer and DJ Paper Diamond. Starting out with bringing on in the New Year with Big Gigantic at the famous Roseland Ballroom in the Big Apple, an interview with MMIBTY that followed, a BBC 1 mixtape and now the headline act of his very own tour, the “Cold Crush” tour, Paper Diamond really is making some huge ripples in electronic dance this year.

It was Valentines day 2014, and around 750 people decided to spend their night sweaty and elated at Vermont’s own Higher Ground and the Cold Crush tour. Featuring acts from the up and coming LOUDPVCK and the well established Gent & Jawns, Paper Diamond and Co. showed up just in the nick of time (literally) to bring us a fantastic show, visually and aurally.

Paper Diamond X Loudpvck – Wylin

It looks the national Cold Crush Tour featuring Paper Diamond alongside Loudpvck is already resulting in some serious collaboration time. Whether they are hitting up studios along the way or working in the mobile studio aka tour bus, these boys know how to get it done. This original hits hard and heavy – sirens and horns are in full force for this anthem. However the beat is blended perfect with the hip hop lyrics and breaks in the action for the festival attendees to catch their breath. If you have been lucky to catch the tour so far I’m sure you’ve heard it, with each other taking turns letting it rip on the turntables. Be sure to check out the remaining dates on the tour below to see if they homies are headed your way soon!

Interview With PAPER DIAMOND (Alex B)

Bringing in the New Year is always a big event, deciding on what you are going to do can be even bigger. This year I certainly made the right choice and was able to bring in the New Years at the legendary Roseland Ballroom in New York City with the legendary Paper Diamond.

Paper Diamond, also known by the name Alex B, deserves nothing less than the title exceptional. At hello its easy to grasp Alex’s calm, collected and straight forward demeanor. Electronic music is blossoming and the artists contained within its realm are as diverse as it is large. There are many individuals that I have interacted with in this sphere of music that, and you can’t blame them, treat this life style like a party. Sometimes living the party is a necessary means to bringing the party and selling tickets to those who want to. Alex has his mind elsewhere, he is here for the music, for the art of sound and for the lifestyle of the culture he has helped build. A term bestowed upon me in my studies of Art History at the University of Vermont “Art for arts sake” represented the mentality of the baroque period, a time of exploration in the visual arts that deviated from the ritualized production in the renaissance era, Alex captures that mentality, he is “music for music’s sake”.

Zeds Dead, Paper Diamond, and more Release EP and Announce “Altered States”

Already looking far into the future, the heavy hitting duo of Zeds Dead have announced their fall tour schedule which will include Paper Diamond, DJ Green Lantern, and Branchez all packed into a bus for the better part of two months. Zeds Dead will be bringing a full live production set with them for the first time, as if you need any more reason to attend this massive tour when it hits your home city. The tour announcement is not why I am writing this however, because if you are like us, you won’t by tickets until two weeks before the show.Planning is not my forté, drinking whiskey and playing loud music is however. The four all-stars released a collective EP to mark this gran announcement with each submitting a track, all of which are available for free download. The Zeds Dead track is phenomenal, just a chilled out classic beat from the boys from Canada. Paper Diamond collaborates with Protohype for an upbeat original cleverly titled “PaperHype”. Its an overall great release of free music from a diverse background and just gives us a little tease of what we can expect to watch when the leaves start falling and baseball actually matters again.

Paper Diamond Drops “Paragon” EP

Well the time has finally come, Alex B, better known as Paper Diamond has finally released his long awaited Paragon EP. As we watched the release get delayed on this album multiple times the hype began to build and we all knew we were waiting on something special. Teaming up with everyone from Cherub to Protohype, Paper Diamond took it to the next level with this full 11 track EP that is an absolute amazing listen from start to finish. As Paper Diamond has branched out from his beginnings as a member of the Pretty Lights family he has maintained some of the PLM sound while really creating a specific set of his own sounds that seem more refined with each new release. A few of my favorites from the new EP are XIX feat the beautiful voice of Angela McCluskey, and of course Jus Like Clockwork a collabo with the LA breakout duo Cherub. Be sure to check out the whole EP below and show Paper Diamond and Elm and Oak some love for once again hooking it all up for free!
