Already looking far into the future, the heavy hitting duo of Zeds Dead have announced their fall tour schedule which will include Paper Diamond, DJ Green Lantern, and Branchez all packed into a bus for the better part of two months. Zeds Dead will be bringing a full live production set with them for the first time, as if you need any more reason to attend this massive tour when it hits your home city. The tour announcement is not why I am writing this however, because if you are like us, you won’t by tickets until two weeks before the show.Planning is not my forté, drinking whiskey and playing loud music is however. The four all-stars released a collective EP to mark this gran announcement with each submitting a track, all of which are available for free download. The Zeds Dead track is phenomenal, just a chilled out classic beat from the boys from Canada. Paper Diamond collaborates with Protohype for an upbeat original cleverly titled “PaperHype”. Its an overall great release of free music from a diverse background and just gives us a little tease of what we can expect to watch when the leaves start falling and baseball actually matters again.
Well the time has finally come, Alex B, better known as Paper Diamond has finally released his long awaited Paragon EP. As we watched the release get delayed on this album multiple times the hype began to build and we all knew we were waiting on something special. Teaming up with everyone from Cherub to Protohype, Paper Diamond took it to the next level with this full 11 track EP that is an absolute amazing listen from start to finish. As Paper Diamond has branched out from his beginnings as a member of the Pretty Lights family he has maintained some of the PLM sound while really creating a specific set of his own sounds that seem more refined with each new release. A few of my favorites from the new EP are XIX feat the beautiful voice of Angela McCluskey, and of course Jus Like Clockwork a collabo with the LA breakout duo Cherub. Be sure to check out the whole EP below and show Paper Diamond and Elm and Oak some love for once again hooking it all up for free!
Yesterday Paper Diamond gave fans a treat with his track “Sleight of Hand”. What was originally supposed to be the day when Mr. Diamond (Alex Botwin) dropped his new EP Paragon, April 16th instead turned into a day when he released a B-Side Instrumental. “Sleight of Hand” was written in 2012 while creating Paragon and features something his old-school fans will be sure to vibe with. This track fuses Paper Diamond’s signature bouncy electronic beats with hip-hop elements for a fresh roll-your-windows-down banger. I know if I had heard this song without knowing who it was by, my guess would be Paper Diamond or someone in the Pretty Lights Music family – it just has that feel.
The Paragon EP will be available for free download next Tuesday, April 23rd. Make sure you grab it!
Speaking of Pretty Lights Music: it may have slipped under your radar, but Derek Vincent Smith released his latest track on Sunday the 14th. Called “Around the Block”, the soulful track features the vocals of Talib Kweli, who is hands-down one of my favorite lyricists past or present. While the beginning of the song rides on piano rolls and sounds that cause me to picture images of the sun setting, the 2:30 mark features a shift that heads towards a Dubstep-esque groove. This mood-boosting breakdown returns to the song’s original elements to wrap up the cut and to seal the deal on yet another awesome Pretty Lights track.
You can head HERE to download the track and other work by Pretty Lights’ artists.
Everything is perfect
Everything just fine
We keepin’ everything movin’
While the sun is shinin’
We are still almost three weeks out from the highly anticipated “Paragon” EP from Alex B. aka Paper Diamond, but the tracks are already rolling out. A lot has changed in the year since his last EP; we have seen the rise of Elm & Oak Records as well as tour headlined by PD and now as a supporting act for the massive Execution Tour featuring Exicision. We know his summer will be booked with festival gigs all over the world and now we have an idea of what kind of new music to expect from him. The first two tracks off the EP show his musical diversity with hints of indie, trap, glitch and many other genres all mixed fluidly into some great sounding originals. Remember, the full EP will be released on April 16th for free via his Facebook page!
Just when you thought we couldn’t possibly have any more giveaways to do, we just got the greenlight to give away a pair to San Francisco’s year end blowout Wintersalt Festival. The Bay Area has stacked up quite a lineup for the two day festival which features big name partystarters like Zedd, Dillon Francis and Diplo along with plenty of other interesting acts (and MMIBTY favorites) like Paper Diamond, DJ Shadow, Travis Barker and Mixmaster Mike (of the Beastie Boys) and up-and-comers REVOLVR, K Theory and Viceroy. Alongside the music will be art installations like you’d expect from the culturally-rich city, all leading up to New Year’s Eve on Monday, when Wintersalt’s promoters Eye Heart SF take the party to the Streets of San Francisco, where headlining DJ A-Trak and support from DJ Craze and SF’s Sam Isaac will ring in 2013 right. I’m upset that I will be unable to attend but I’m excited to have the opportunity to give someone else the chance to have a fantastic weekend of music and fun to end 2012 on. It’s going to be a short but sweet contest so we’re going to try something a little different than usual… Instructions below. Get all the details on the festival here.
Tweet why you think you should win with the hashtag #winwintersalt and mention our twitter handle @mmibty in your tweet. Winner will be announced on Saturday, December 23rd. One pair of tickets is up for grabs so get tweeting people!
Disclaimer: If you don’t have Twitter, maybe you should get one. They’re free, you know.
Paper Diamond, one of the first of many acts to be a part of Pretty Light’s music label, has emerged as a standout artist as he has since moved on to also drop beats on Mad Decent, while extending his entire discography for free across the internet. Alex has jumped on many of the top festivals, made his rounds with the Pretty Lights Music gang, and is now heading out on his second headlining tour, named ‘The Night Vision Tour’. He will be touring with The Knocks, Elliot Lipp, and other friends as he hits up 24 cities across the United States. Today, we have a preview of what to expect from the man, as he released a half hour mix of PD favorites, new material, and other great tunes (some of which have been featured on this site!)
