MMIBTY Exclusive Mix by Mike Vincent

I’ve been friends with DJ/producer Mike Vincent since the fifth grade. We met in English class in a town called Natick, 30 minutes outside of Boston. Mike was wearing a Rage Against the Machine t-shirt. I was (and still am) a Rage Against the Machine fan. From that point on Mike and I shared a common interest in music. We both liked the same bands and the same musical styles and we would continually share tunes with each other. Mike was always a guitar player and once I began playing the drums we would have recurring jam sessions, eventually forming the band A Crowded Mind. Mike and I did the band thing through high school but once college came we parted ways, keeping in touch sporadically. Finally Mike and I reconnected after college only to find out we both had a huge passion for dance music. While I enjoyed writing about and listening to dance music, Mike had taken things a step further with his background in music production: he’d been working on writing dance tracks and DJing at parties around Boston. After making some key connections in the industry Mike became a resident DJ at Bill’s Bar, located right next to Fenway Park. Bill’s is a unique venue in that it has the feeling of a bar while keeping the music format in the dance music world. As I was getting my feet wet with DJing myself Mike invited me to open for him during his residency and between the two of us we had many awesome nights on Landsdowne St.

I’d like to say I take partial credit in coming up with Mike’s stage name of Mike Vincent and that happened when things really started to progress for him. Between playing gigs around town and holding down a full-time job, Mike somehow found the time to hone his skills in the studio. Before he knew it, Mike Vincent was on the Barstool Blackout Tour, co-Headlining with Dante the Don and playing in front of thousands of people each night at venues like the House of Blues Boston, the Worcester DCU Center, Philadelphia’s Electric Factory, and Washington DC’s Fur Nightclub (just to name a few). Things kept getting bigger for Mike and this past Spring he decided to move to LA to pursue his dream of producing and DJing professionally.

This morning Mike Vincent sent over a brand new mix, compiled exclusively for MMIBTY. Having seen Mike DJ many times and having heard several of his mixes, I can honestly say this is the best 70 minutes he has strung together yet. The sound Mike Vincent prefers is something along the lines of funky bangers. Mike’s always preferred heavier tracks, but when he’s not in front of a crowd of thousands of screaming fans covered in foam, he prefers to break out the funkier side of hard-hitting House music. Mike and I share this in common. These days the key to my heart is a good bass line, something that has almost disappeared from dance music. But Mike has done his homework and mixed together a set that keeps things aggressive, fun, and flowing. The set opens with a Mike Vincent original called “Dirk Diggler”, out on his forth-coming EP, and displays his continued growth as a songwriter. The mix follows with a string of high-energy tunes including Paris & Simo/Merk & Kremont’s “Tundra” and the Sick Individuals remix of “We Are the Sun”. After taking a Progressive break with EDX’s “Hazed”, we’re treated to songs like “La Tromba” (Chris Lake & Nom De Strip Remix), another Mike Vincent original called “Monday”, a bangin’ track by Marcel vs. Stefano Pain called “Back”, and Madeon’s new track “Technicolor”. I love Mike’s inclusion of Michael Woods’ remix of “You Don’t Know Me“, Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso’s “Roar” (funkier than I realized), and Felguk’s “Slice and Dice”.

Overall this mix is very well-done and I’ll definitely be playing it repeated times over the coming weeks. Make sure to show Mike Vincent your love and support and make sure to also keep your eyes locked on his SoundCloud page for new releases! *Track list after the jump!*

Ellie Goulding is Burn, Burn, Burnin’ Up

This girl is without a doubt on my goal list of artists to see perform live. Besides the fact that Ellie has a dope fashion sense and awesome personality from what I can tell from all of her social media outlets, she’s someone that is constantly getting such positive feedback and love from both fans and other artists. Ellie Goulding just recently debuted her new single called “Burn”, and although it’s not the classic sound we usually hear from her, it’s still obviously a great track if she had anything to do with it. This one’s a lot more mainstream-electronic-pop sounding and its got that summery feel to it that I love. An interesting fact about it is that it was apparently originally intended for Leona Lewis to sing, but Ellie seemed to be the better candidate. I approve. In other news, Ellie‘s most recent album “Halcyon” is not out of the light just yet, because on August 27th, she’ll be releasing a new companion piece to “Halcyon” called, “Halcyon Days”. This new and improved album is comprised with 10 new tracks including “Burn”, as well as some hot collaborations with artists like the young Madeon and Fun.‘s, Nate Reuss. I’m sure as hell excited about it, I don’t know about you. Be on the look out for the announced date for the pre-order of the album that should be coming out soon! For now, head on over to iTunes and download “Burn”!

4/20 Disco Funk from Farleon

Nothing like this special holiday to get me in the mood for some funky fuckin’ disco. Out of Kazakhstan, Farleon is a producer with quite the catalog, featuring a number of originals and remixes that span the spectrum from four-on-the-floor house beats, dubstep massives, electro house bangers, 8-bit productions and even, yes, disco house. His latest is a remix of Martin Solveig‘s “The Night Out”, which you might remember already saw some pretty incredible and funky remixes from Madeon and TheFatRat. Completely charging the familiar vocals with a fat bassline and electronic guitar and synths abound, the remix ends up being a marvel reminiscent of Daft Punk‘s eclectic French sound. Hey, TheFatRat even commented on the track with a very positive review, so you know it’s gotta be good. Whatever you do, do not turn off the song until you get to the 2:30 mark for the awesome solo. Enjoy the free download here.

Ellie Goulding HALCYON Remix Album + Louis La Roche Remix

Ellie Goulding‘s voice will always have a spot in my heart as one of my favorite vocalists in the electronic game right now and I think most everyone would agree that it started a long time ago with Bassnectar‘s amazing remix of her song “Lights”. I have both of her albums, have enjoyed them on many occasions and am completely unashamed to say so. She’s worked with producers such as Calvin Harris and Madeon on her tracks, so it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that her ‘remix album’ would feature more of our favorite producers like Amtrac and Star Slinger. The remix album, being offered as a collaboration with Interscope in mixed format through Nike’s website, features 45 minutes back-to-back of some extremely creative takes of cuts off of Goulding’s latest LP Halcyon. Amtrac’s take (direct SC link) is typically all over the map and eclectic, providing several warm sounds from deep house to light trap to wobbles, all within the scope of one 7-minute remix. Star Slinger, generally known for his more downtempo, R&B-flavored offerings, gives us a surprising house remix of Ellie’s “Don’t Say A Word” (direct SC link). Remixes from Kastle, Birdy Nam Nam, Special Features and others round out the remainder of the mix and you can find the full tracklist after the jump. Download the mixtape for free HERE.

Hey! Louis La Roche also wanted to leave his disco mark on an Ellie track and dropped a free remix through his SoundCloud the other day. Pick it up below.

Stay Awake

Here’s yet another amazing collaboration involving two extremely talented artists. Between the beautiful and blonde, Ellie Goulding, and the young, French genius, Madeon, they produced their newest track called, “Stay Awake”. This Electronic Pop/Drum and Bass hit was just released on Sunday and is now on sale on Beatport! I’ll make it even easier for you, click here to purchase it now! Its upbeat tempo colliding with the amazing vocals by Ellie will have this song replaying in your mind all day. It was apparently supposed to be released on Ellie Goulding’s recent album, “Holcyon”, but it wasn’t perfected by the time of the release. After seeing the successful response to the full album, she’ll definitely be coming back into the spotlight thanks to Madeon with this track being so hot.
