Once again in the final days of January, a similar name flashed across the news feeds all over the area, Datsik was back in town. Bringing with him once again his massive Vortex lighting display, Datsik and his crew of consisting of Herobust, Getter and The Frim sold out Higher Ground yet again.
Datsik has been a pioneer of electronic music in the West. Known for pushing his patented style of very heavy bass music, something that many would describe as the sounds of mechanized war (mainly stuff that I can put on at the gym to get me going) but none the less a sound that has given him a very loyal following.
Well it has been an amazing winter for EDM, filled with amazing festivals, cruises, and shows from coast to coast. Definitely the busiest winter to date yet for us here at MMIBTY.com. We were extremely fortunate to cover Snowball Music Festival earlier in the month and want to give a big thanks to Live Loud CO for all their support and for putting on an amazing event. With its new location in Winter Park, Colorado the festival went about as smooth as one could imagine. Plentiful amounts of affordable housing, awesome after parties, a great venue and a line up to boot made for an absolutely epic three day weekend in the rockies. Friday night left us all a little muddy, but after Kendrick and Big Gigantic closed the night out on the main stage, I couldn’t have cared less about the hundred dollar pair of shoes I had just ruined.
As I woke up on saturday morning, under the dining room table, where I had found just enough floor space to call home for the night. I couldn’t have been more excited then to make my way to the SnowBrunch, A benefit for the Colorado non-violence work done by Phoenix 999. I was kindly greeted at the door by the girls of Quarterly Karma and Early Bird Night Owl with a bag of fun gifts and massive breakfast buffet and bloody mary bar. Combined with some great live music from the likes of Flashlights and Steffi Graf this was exactly what I needed to get my engine started again.
As we made our way down to the festival grounds, the ten inches of fresh snow nipping at our heels and the Colorado sun shining brighter then ever, I knew we were in for another epic night. Although Friday night was a mud fest, Saturday had something different in mind for us. As the hoards of concert goers began to stomp around and rage we witnessed as ten inches of fresh powder was quickly transformed into an absolute skating rink. Although this was mildly hilarious at times, I hope everyone made it out of there with out any lasting injuries as we were witness to some serious spills that night. Pretty Lights closed out the night with a set that spanned his entire career and hit on every track that any true PL fan cherishes. Not only did Derek’s mom make it out for the show but so did the whole extended Pretty Lights Colorado family. Making for a crowd truly united by their love shared for the music, what more could you ask for?
Sunday came quickly, as I pulled myself out of “bed” I quickly began to realize last nights icy conditions as well as other things had taken a pretty solid toll on my body. The sun was out though and temperatures were rising quickly, with Flosstradamus and Surfer Blood on my list of things to do I headed back down to the venue. Sunday was the most gorgeous of the three days, and with a much warmer night then the previous one the stage was set for STS9 to send Colorado on their way as they closed out the weekend with a stellar set.
Be sure to check out Photos from all 3 days below, and tag yourself if you were lucky enough to get in front of the Mic Shots lense! Be sure to check out the most recent installment of The Hot Sh*t radio show on Sirius XMfrom Pretty Lights below, as well as Big G’s tribute track to Colorado that had the crowd going insane on Friday night. We hope you had as much fun as we did this year at Snowball and we look forward to seeing all your beautiful faces again next year!
Ultra Music Festival is a wrap and although many of us could only watch it on YouTube, we all feel a little depressed that it’s over. Seeing the best in the world, pull out all of the stops is what makes Ultra the premiere music festival here in America. We heard countless unreleased tracks, saw some unusual collaborations, all while drinking with our closest friends on couches across the country. Well now you can relive the experiences as we have collected sets throughout the weekend that you can stream and download. Many of these sets were posted by our friends or other blogs and we have simply compiled them all in one place. We would rather work smart than work hard if we can! Download them all if you want and be sure to check out the tracklists below!

Well it is that time of year again as thousands will begin their trek to the Rocky Mountain State for some seriously high elevation partying at the 2013 Snowball Music Festival. Boasting a new location in Winter Park this year we expect Snowball 2013 to be the largest yet. Not that previous Snowballs haven’t been amazing, but plagued with unhappy city officials, far-reaching after party venues, and with almost a 3 hour drive from the airport to the previous venue this new Winter Park location is sure to be quite an upgrade. This years lineup is sure to impress as Colorado favorites Big Gigantic, STS9, and Pretty Lights will each be headlining one night and are sure to get the home crowd fired up as usual. With tons of talent lined up for this year from break-out hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar to other up and comers such as Luminox, Gigamesh, and Crizzly this is not an event to miss.
If you haven’t already purchased your tickets you are going to want to head over the Official Snowball website and make that happen before they run out! Snowball has also release a limited number of Single Day Passes that will be available until they run out, so if you can’t make it up for the whole weekend at least pick one day and send it! Also be sure to check out all the After Party Venues HERE and if you enjoy a hot breakfast and a strong mimosa after a long night in the cold then you won’t want to miss the first annual SnowBrunch at Snowball in support of Phoenix 999.
I put together a short ten song playlist of Snowball must haves from a few of this years artists to get everyone excited and these can be downloaded or streamed below. If somehow you are still on the fence about this amazing event, and have never been before, just have a look at last years video below and I am sure it will shoot tingles all the way down your spine and ignite those oh so familiar festival feelings. Hope to see you all out there!
10 Tracks You Must Hear Before Snowball After the Jump!
2 years ago, Datsik (Troy Beetles) came to Burlington Vermont and played at Club Metronome with a capacity of about 220. The show was completely sold out, I was there, and it was absolutely insane. I did not know much about the artist at the time a side from a few of his hits but my friends and I were completely blown away with Datsiks ability to consistently impress and motivate the crowd with little to no lulls in energy. That being said, not much has changed, well except his ability to sell out a venue almost 3x the size.
A few weeks ago Datsik rolled into town again and made quite a ruckus. Selling out one of the most popular venues in the state, the show was complete madness. Walking into the the main entrance, AFK was on stage and already the crowd was pouring sweat, dancing, jumping and absolutely going wild. The following succession of artists were some of the strongest supporting acts I have seen in a single show. Delta Heavy, having just flown in from across the pond was suffering from a personal ailment and although he was debating going to the hospital he muscled through his uncomfortable situation and was just as impressive as Datsik himself. The energy and the heat from the crowd was incredibly intense, if I had not been able to access the back stage I know for certain I would of probably passed out from heat exhaustion.
I was lucky enough to receive permission to sit down with the man himself Datsik and ask him a few questions. I must say for a man of his status he was incredibly generous, and his whole team on the firepower tour were very helpful and easy to work with, by far one of the most pleasant interviews I have had to date. So take a look at the youtube video below to watch the interview and check out Datsik’s social media outlets and show him some love!
