Milk N Cookies Are ‘Bout To Be More Than Your Favorite Midnight Snack

The other day, I was just casually making my rounds on Facebook, trollin’ and patrolin’ just like every other night of the week, when I suddenly stumbled upon a video that one of my friends had liked. Interested, I clicked on it to find two beautiful, blonde bombshells in a couple of snapbacks and muscle tanks making a video from their laptop. Naturally, I decided to press play and see what these guys were all about. It’s safe to safe they were just giving us a preview of a new track they had been working on. I know how that introduction may have sounded, but it wasn’t any “mix your milk with my cocoa puff” type ish.

First of all, let me just say that these dudes are straight up crazy, yet hilarious. It’s almost like they’re on a whole other level of their own. I soon came to discover that they were two twin brothers from Chicago, James (Milk) and Paul (Cooks). They’re the creators and producers of some really dope music, making magic under the name of Milk N Cookies. From solely watching that video and reading the comments on it, it was clear to me how passionate these bros were about what they do, while also fooling around and connecting with their fans. That’s definitely the first thing I loved about them. When I started to explore their music, I realized how amazing their stuff really was. Continue Reading…

Tommy Trash Loves Monkeys; John Dahlback Prefers Cobras

Despite being blurry-eyed from a late Diplo & Grandtheft show last night at Boston’s Ocean Club, I was excited to get my week crankin’ with new tracks by Tommy Trash and John Dahlback – two of my favorite producers in the Electro-House world. Any time Tommy Trash or John Dahlback release new songs I get excited because I know I’m going to hear something unique and something of the highest quality – both in production value and in the overall structure of each track.

“Monkey In Love” is Trash’s brand new banger (released on Steve Angello’s Size Records), a song with a highly anticipated release date after being part of live sets and his most recent podcast from May 30th. The drop of this one is so grimy and so unique that there’s no way this one doesn’t make it into your rotation and into your DJ sets. The break has, to me, a very Medieval feel, before dropping back into the filth one last time. Tommy Trash is truly a savant and unlike no other artist out there, I think you’ll agree after hearing “Monkey in Love”.

“Cobra” is John Dahlback’s brand new banger, released on Afrojack’s Wall Recordings. The fact that this tune was released on Wall comes as a bit of a surprise to me, given that Dahlback runs his own Mutant label and because this song has zero bleeps or bloops. I don’t know if I can do a good job of describing the sound of “Cobra”, but what I can tell you is that it remains unique in sound following suit with Dahlback’s other heavy bangers. If you thought the dirt and grime was readily available in Tommy Trash’s “Monkey In Love”, you’ll see it’s all over the place with Dahlback’s “Cobra”. Enjoy!

Review: Mix Mash Pool Party Miami 2013

Ooo the Mix Mash Pool Party, my introduction to pool parties during Miami Music Week, and what a pool party it was. As the ticket suggested, my crew and I arrived at the National Hotel before 2pm, WARNING, never listen to the ticket because at much as you want to be guaranteed entry, no one really gets there at that time and it just makes waiting for night fall more exhausting. We walked through the main lobby of the hotel, which struck me as a bit odd and out the the back of the lobby through the restaurant where the pool area was revealed. The biggest portion of the pool was closest to the back of the lobby while the stage was on the complete other end of the pool and then some. As we walked the length of the pool, the pool began to be more and more populated. As we reached the end we put down our stuff, spread our towels out and got a few drinks to start off the day. As opposed to other pool parties that I attended that week, the Mix Mash pool party was less about the cabanas and the bottle service and more about just being on your feet and having a good time or being in the pool and socializing with your fellow EDM fans. The stage was fairly small, but the area surrounding it in front of the pool was fairly large and the floor was covered with sand, which added to the experience.

Spaveech Crunks Out Afrojack’s “Rock the House”

23-year-old New Jersey-based producer Spaveech just sent us his Trap remix of Afrojack’s “Rock the House” and I couldn’t wait to get it posted. “Rock the House” may have been Afrojack’s biggest track from 2012 but what Spaveech did with his rendition is pretty spectacular. Not only did Spaveech Trap the shit out of “Rock the House”, but he added all kinds of samples and even included cuts of various other Afrojack songs such as “Take Over Control” and “No Beef“. Coming in at 6:30 when most Trap songs are barely half that long says something in itself (and no the song is not repetitive at all).

Check out this track and if you like what you hear show Spaveech some love on Facebook! This dude has serious talent so dig a bit further into his SoundCloud tracks if you have some time.
