Review: Mix Mash Pool Party Miami 2013

Ooo the Mix Mash Pool Party, my introduction to pool parties during Miami Music Week, and what a pool party it was. As the ticket suggested, my crew and I arrived at the National Hotel before 2pm, WARNING, never listen to the ticket because at much as you want to be guaranteed entry, no one really gets there at that time and it just makes waiting for night fall more exhausting. We walked through the main lobby of the hotel, which struck me as a bit odd and out the the back of the lobby through the restaurant where the pool area was revealed. The biggest portion of the pool was closest to the back of the lobby while the stage was on the complete other end of the pool and then some. As we walked the length of the pool, the pool began to be more and more populated. As we reached the end we put down our stuff, spread our towels out and got a few drinks to start off the day. As opposed to other pool parties that I attended that week, the Mix Mash pool party was less about the cabanas and the bottle service and more about just being on your feet and having a good time or being in the pool and socializing with your fellow EDM fans. The stage was fairly small, but the area surrounding it in front of the pool was fairly large and the floor was covered with sand, which added to the experience.

Ultra Music Festival 2013 – Weekend 2 Live Sets [Free Downloads]

Ultra Music Festival is a wrap and although many of us could only watch it on YouTube, we all feel a little depressed that it’s over. Seeing the best in the world, pull out all of the stops is what makes Ultra the premiere music festival here in America. We heard countless unreleased tracks, saw some unusual collaborations, all while drinking with our closest friends on couches across the country. Well now you can relive the experiences as we have  collected sets throughout the weekend that you can stream and download. Many of these sets were posted by our friends or other blogs and we have simply compiled them all in one place. We would rather work smart than work hard if we can! Spaveech Crunks Out Afrojack’s “Rock the House”

23-year-old New Jersey-based producer Spaveech just sent us his Trap remix of Afrojack’s “Rock the House” and I couldn’t wait to get it posted. “Rock the House” may have been Afrojack’s biggest track from 2012 but what Spaveech did with his rendition is pretty spectacular. Not only did Spaveech Trap the shit out of “Rock the House”, but he added all kinds of samples and even included cuts of various other Afrojack songs such as “Take Over Control” and “No Beef“. Coming in at 6:30 when most Trap songs are barely half that long says something in itself (and no the song is not repetitive at all).

Check out this track and if you like what you hear show Spaveech some love on Facebook! This dude has serious talent so dig a bit further into his SoundCloud tracks if you have some time.

Christmas Electro/Pop Bangers!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!! I hope that everyone really enjoyed the holidays and received no coal… Anyways just wanted to share some songs that I have been sleeping on for the last few weeks.

First off, We got the new Chris Brown & Afrojack collaboration. This song is huge! Being a huge fan of the Dutch House extraordinaire, The one thing that I dislike about his productions is when he tries too hard to make an electro/pop crossover like “Give Me Everything Tonight.” When he produces songs like that, he really leaves his roots and is almost trying to make a very pop-y record. On “As Your Friend,” he stays true to Nick van de Wall by keeping all of those Dutch house synths that we know and love, and producing what is going to be a huge Top 40 hit. Adding Chris Brown’s vocals is just the icing on the cake, even though rumor has it that this song might never see the light of day (on the radio) because Rihanna has outbid her ex-boyfriend for the rights to the instrumental….. Either way, download this soon to be guilty pleasure.

Next up, we have “Bring Out The Bottles.” I know that we are all mourning the break up of LMFAO (Just kidding), but Red Foo has come out with another LMFAO-ish production. To be honest, some of these LMFAO tracks are pretty good production wise, the downside is whenever either one of them opens their mouths and start to “sing.” Even though this song has a lot of vocals from Red Foo, the bright side is that when the beat drops, there is none, and if you listen to this song loud enough,  you can enjoy yourself

Afrojack – “Radioman” (Duher Remix)

Afrojack has had one hell of a year. Headlining multiple festivals including Ultra, having a Jacked tent and two amazing sets at EDC New York and of course dumping everyone’s favorite hotel hairess, the Dutch producer still had time to make some fire tracks. Russian producer Duher‘s remix of ‘Radioman’  was featured on Nicky Romero‘s most recent ‘Protocol’ podcast.  This house instrumental remix is a fresh take on the original, adding a more clubby beat to the more melodic original. Don’t get me wrong, the original has a great house beat and a great drop. Duher made it his own by adding a totally unique bass line. Too often, remixes are simply added samples or cop outs that don’t do much in the way of improving or changing the song. That’s not the case here. Look for Duher to make an impact and maybe even bring Russian house DJ’s to the conversation of “the next big thing”.
