BPM Festival 2017 Flexes Its Muscles with 30 Showcases, YA’AH MUUL Parties, And Documentary Trailer

Well, that title certainly says a lot! The BPM Festival is set to kick off in less than two months and the announcements aren’t even done yet. Three major announcements happened in recent days and they are filling me with all kinds of excitement:

1.) Ten new showcases have been added to bring the total to 30 (and they’re not done yet!)

This week’s announcement includes: the BPM debut of supergroup Better Lost Than Stupid composed of Davide Squillace, Martin Buttrich, and Matthias Tanzmann; UK duo Dusky with their signature event Dusky Presents; Carl Cox’s authoritative underground imprint Intec; the return of party brand and record label Kaluki; Marco Bailey’s techno-focused party MATERIA; Catz ‘n Dogz Polish imprint Pets Recordings; Lee Foss’ out-of-this-world party series and record label Repopulate Mars; Riva Starr’s House-heavy label SNATCH!,;Diynamic Music chief Solomun with his famed Solomun +1 party concept; and Coyu’s cat-loving, reputable Spanish label Suara.

2.) The YA’AH MUUL parties are back with complete lineups

The BPM Festival doubles down with two spectacular parties for their celebrated festival within a festival. For opening weekend, Mixmag presents YA’AH MUUL I on Saturday, January 7 with Carl Cox, Art Department, Steve Lawler, Victor Calderone, Shaun Reeves, and Acid Mondays on the Main Stage while the Warung Stage features D’Julz, Chaim, Francesca Lombardo, Renato Ratier, Albuquerque, Conti & Leo Janeiro. For closing weekend, The BPM Festival presents YA’AH MUUL II on Saturday, January 14 with a turbocharged 3-way Seth Troxler b2b The Martinez Brothers b2b Loco Dice, along with Guy Gerber, Kenny Glasgow, Lauren LaneNitin, Bas Ibellini, Rony Seikaly, Caleb Calloway, The Mekanism, George Stavro, and Who.

3.) Mixmag, Handlebar Films, and Bud Light Mexico present the trailer for The BPM Festival Official Documentary: Dancing in Paradise (see top of post)

The full length documentary film will highlight the festival’s history and meteoric rise to being one the world’s most important dance music events in the world that establishes the tone for the remainder of the year over the last decade. A Handlebar Films production directed by Kevin MacKenzie, the film features interviews and behind-the-scenes views with festival directors and staff, Rafael Castro Castro, former Playa del Carmen Mayor and the Secretario General of the Municipio of Solidaridad at the time of filming, Director of Bud Light Mexico Nicolas Mamboury, and a worldwide palette of BPM artists including Apollonia, Boris, Cassy, Chus & Ceballos, Coyu, Danny Tenaglia, Dubfire, Dusky, Ellen Allien, Gorgon City, Hector, John Digweed, Lauren Lane, Nicole Moudaber, Richie Hawtin, Robbie Akbal, Solomun, Stacey Pullen, Steve Lawler, and more as they examine the cultural connection and parallel development within this historic region and the impact the festival has had on the music scene in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and beyond. The film will premiere during The BPM Festival 2017 with a free screening for fans and exclusive screening for industry & media presented by Mixmag.
