“Give someone a hug, tell your mom you love her” instructs Liam Dirlam, aka VOODOO FARM, at the beginning of his “One Million Colors of Summer” mix. One of my favorite Washington D.C. boys, both on a personal level and from a music perspective, dropped a new mix on the world last week and it does nothing but scream WELCOME TO SUMMER. I’ve become good friends with VOODOO FARM, but the fact of the matter is we’ve been writing about his work long before I met him. Now residing in NYC, VOODOO FARM produces a unique brand of music along with videos and artwork that really call out to me. But I’m not the only one: this mix celebrates Liam hitting over one million plays on SoundCloud – a huge milestone for any up-and-coming musician.
VOODOO FARM’s shows are a ton of fun. They are always high-energy and any time I’ve seen him he drops awesome Bass Music tracks that few other big DJs are throwing down. VOODOO FARM’s productions range anywhere from Soul to Funk to House to Dubstep, Trap, and everything in between. I was a big fan of VOODOO FARM’s Hitsville U.S.A. EP which I posted last year when it dropped. Before that I was all about his remixes of “Grapvine” by Marvin Gaye and “How Will I Know” by the late Whitney Houston.
Liam told me he’s been really feeling tunes that hang out in the Future Soul realm recently, and that’s evident with this fantastic mix. I think you’ll be extremely impressed with “One Million Colors of Summer”, which I will easily be playing on repeat this Summer. Doesn’t matter if you’re chillin’ by the pool, cruisin’ with the windows down, or hangin’ at the beach – this one is a must-hear.
