I was underwhelmed by Lorde‘s debut album Pure Heroine earlier this year, despite my best efforts to enjoy it. Her “so hipster it was mainstream” style and shallow vocals wore thin on over the course of the LP, leaving “Royals,” “Tennis Court” and “Team” as the takeaway tracks. Happy I was to see that pop/electro producer and avid remixer Elephante decided to take on the latter record in his latest remix, giving it a charm reminiscent of French superstar Madeon or the trio Cash Cash. The track remains decidedly pop music, but Lorde’s vocals certainly benefit from the filled out sound Elephante brings to the remix, giving “Team” the upbeat electro breaks it needed for a dancefloor makeover. According to Elephante’s profile, he is a classically trained pianist and guitarist, with a Harvard degree no less, which explains his obvious attention to detail in this remix.
