Skrillex has always been an innovator. He stormed onto the dance music scene a few years ago with a new and aggressive sound we had never heard before. After a couple short years, he was at the top of the game, headlining major festivals and winning Grammys. In case people forgot, there is a reason for all his success and whether or not you think it’s cool to hate Skrillex these days he continues to create innovative music (and in general he’s doing big things). “Big things” could be in reference to any number of topics, but I’m talking mostly about his OWSLA label that continues to push out awesome music, from guys like Monsta, Nick Thayer, Alex Metric, Dillon Francis, Jack Beats, Koan Sound….the list goes on.
Last night Skrillex dropped this three-song EP inside The Nest which is an insider group created by OWLSA to help share the latest and greatest music coming from the label (hosted on drip.fm for $12/month). Here’s a statement he released about his newest effort:
“hello everybody
first of all, i want to thank you so much for supporting the Nest. this is not about changing the music industry now, it’s about supporting great and forward thinking tools like drip.fm to connect us on a more personal level. the fact that we have a direct way to give you guys content without any of the red tape that the normal distribution mediums have makes it really easy fun for us and gives us a new platform to be creative and spontaneous. we hope you know that we put a great effort into providing awesome stuff straight to you.
Here are some songs that i put together for an ep that came together last minute. scary bolly dub is a song I’ve been playing in my sets for a while. I use it more as a dj tool, but I wanted you guys to have it.
The reason and Leaving came together last minute. I made Leaving in my hotel room in mexico and just finished the Reason an hour ago in my hotel room in miami. I guess it’s just kind of a reflection of how I’m feeling right now. Hope you guys enjoy these quality wavs.
