2011 in Review: Top 10 Trance & Progressive Songs

Trance and Progressive House often gets overlooked here on MMIBTY. We’ll admit that it’s not among our favorite sub-genres of EDM, but more and more often I find myself listening to or looking for new tracks in this realm. Sometimes I need an escape from hard-hitting Electro-House or Dubstep, and other times I’m just in need of some awe-inspiring tunes. Trance and Progressive House are journeys in their own right, often taking the listener through ups and downs, with uplifting moments and dirty drops you might expect to hear on an Electro song. Not to mention that Trance and Prog tunes are probably the most technically involved from a production standpoint.

This year the lines between genres have been blurred and often times when I find myself listening to a Trance Around the World podcast, I’m not getting pure Trance – I’m getting a little bit of everything. You can thank artists like Arty and Mat Zo for that, who don’t like to put a label on the music they produce. Above & Beyond have had a huge year as well, ranking at #5 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll and recently putting on a huge event in Beirut to celebrate their 400th Trance Around the World podcast (see video).

MMIBTY doesn’t often post Trance or Progressive House tracks, but when we do we make sure they are worth your time. Here are some of the very best songs from the Trance and Progressive world released in 2011 – DO NOT sleep on these:
